Dexter

Dexter cattle are the smallest of the European cattle breeds, being about half the size of a traditional Hereford. They were considered a rare breed of cattle, until recently, but are now considered a recovering breed by the American Livestock Breeds Consevancy. Dexters are classified as a dual-purpose breed; used for milk and beef. However they are often listed as a triple-purpose breed, since they are also used for oxen.
Emerald Park Farms

All of our cattle are handled daily. From their first day they are worked around and socialized. As they grow they are halter trained, groomed and bathed on a regular basis. All are trained for the show ring and in addition, the boys are trained as draft animals and all heifers worked towards a milking career. We have dun, red and black animals both polled and horned.

Turkey Feather Farm
These great cattle are a wonderful addition to our farm. Dexter cattle are from Ireland as a naturally small "house cow" for meat and dairy. Dexters have recently gained popularity due to smaller farms and homegrown food. Dexters originally were black with horns. Today they are red, dun and polled. They are easy keepers, great calving ease, and have a gentle temperament making them easy to handle.

R double D Acres
It is our goal to breed a true dual purpose Dexter. One that has good udder attachment, excellent feet and correct leg structure and provide high quality beef and carcass yields. These gentle, hardy and easy to handle animals are one of the world's smallest bovines. They require less pasture and feed than other breeds. They thrive in hot as well as cold climates and do well outdoors year round, needing only a windbreak, shelter and fresh water. Fertility is high and calves are dropped in the field without difficulty.
